Just published on Facebook. Food for thought my dear reader. From a book I am considering to publish. Long thoughts about the turning of the world - and our place in it. Thanks for reading. John
NATIONS SHAKE
“So Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea,
the waters returned and covered the
chariots and the horsemen
and all the host of Pharaoh.”
Exodus 14: 27-28
What if Divine Power
takes a hand in shaping
the affairs of earth?
What if there is reaction,
And counter-reaction?
What if Passion
resides in the heavens,
passion for justice,
demands for goodness,
careful watch over actions,
rough punishments
for iniquity?
What then?
How turned the tables
of who is victim.
How justified are we
in our deceit?
Perhaps the silence of God
is the Answer to worlds
bent on destruction,
to morality unstrung,
to lives so twisted and
inflamed they can no
longer bear witness
to the True Flame
burning in ordinary brush.
Perhaps The Child is the
only hope to end the
terrible quietness of God.
Nations shake and collide.
Is the Great Author’s hand
moving them?
Do deeds shape our ends?
Does hesitance flood our
consciousness with the silt
of what we have done
or have still not done?
Haunting thoughts these,
Irreverent musings,
Sad tales …
Except for One who
redeems us. Who breaks
through the ancient
abacus of fight and retreat,
Scorn and killing,
Hate and fear,
to offer forgiveness, release,
fought-for freedom, a touch
of grace, breathing room.
Rescue from a sweltering
home engulfed in
Determinism
and Defeat.
“Nations Shake” “in ordinary brush,” reference being made to the burning bush that was not being consumed (Exodus 3) and Moses averting his eyes from seeing it.
Author’s Note: Wild, unpredictable, cruel things can happen that sweep the supports out from under us. Are these our fault?
No. Events of nature, chaos in the universe, random chance happenings can be exactly that. No one deserves a great rock crashing down a mountain knocking a car off the road, killing four.
This verse deals, not with the child who has cancer, but with other, larger questions about the world. Nations think they are accountable to no one. But God just might be in the mix. That is a reoccurring message in the Old and Ancient Book.
