A Well-Spent Day

Meditations for the Untethered

Sojourner—from Old French. “to stay

or dwell for a time.”

From Vulgar Latin subdiurnare,”

to spend the day.”

 We are all here to

spend the day,

to stay awhile,

to dwell for a time.

We share in this

Inexpressible yet

Inescapable Mystery

of dying and the Divine.

That he who walks on water,

who touches a blind man’s

eyes to make him see,

who chases Avengers away

from a woman bent down

in adultery, is more than

a tired memory.

He is the One with us.

The trumpet sounding.

Hope at play on a much

larger stage.

He walks with You. He

finds you on the shore,

chases away the cruel

and callous who bring

stones of grief and

guilt and shame.

He welcomes you.

From the heart of

the universe,

from the dawn of

time’s beginning,

He multiples whatever

meager faith you have.

So spend the day,

Stay awhile,

Dwell for a time.

Let quiet suspend.

Noise can wait its turn.

Live for this moment.

Walk in presence

and wonder.
